The Cancer Center was elected by the 27-member jury chaired by Denitsa Nikolova, Deputy Minister of Regional Development. The prestigious award was presented at a ceremony held under the patronage of Lilyana Pavlova, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.
The awarded hospital opened its doors a year ago with an area of just over 10,000 square meters. The 8-storey building is located on Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd. in the capital city of Sofia and impresses with its modern look. The hospital offers more than 70 beds in single rooms.
The conceptual design was developed by the American architectural office of HKS, specialized in hospital buildings design, and at a later stage, the Proarch SA team managed by Architect Ilia Evrev further developed the conceptual, technical and operational phase of the design. The globally established American and British standards of hospital buildings - the Department of Veterans Affairs, Health Building notes – the Department of Health were implemented during the design stage of the Cancer Center.
“Acibadem City Clinic Cancer Center is the most advanced specialized oncology hospital in Bulgaria, having investments exceeding BGN 70 million (ca. EUR 36 mln.) in unique for the country equipment, infrastructure and medical approaches in improving the quality of treatment and care of patients who suffer from socially significant diseases”, said Ilian Grigorov, CEO of the Acibadem City Clinic Group at the ceremony. He added that the merge with the Acibadem Healthcare Group has made Acibadem City Clinic the largest healthcare provider in Bulgaria and the major source of innovation in medicine and overall patient care presently and in the near future.
The Cancer Center is furnished with two linear accelerators, a brachytherapy treatment device, a 1.5 Tesla MRI, a 128-multislice CT, and two ultra-modern devices for diagnosing cancer – a SPECT/CT and a PET/CT. In addition, the first for Bulgaria 3-D digital mammography with tomosynthesis is operating at the Center, thus offering the “gold standard” in diagnosing breast diseases.
The Cancer Center offers separate clinics in Medical Oncology, Radiation Therapy and Radiosurgery, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Pathology, Genetics, Diagnostic Imaging, etc. The hospital has been recognized for the high quality of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, genetic counseling, rehabilitation and psychological care provided to patients and their relatives.
Leading specialists have been employed by the Hospital and the Management’s ambition is to bring back to the country Bulgarian doctors established in clinics across Europe and worldwide. The medical staff exceeds 250 physicians and healthcare professionals.
